Smart & Final to Upgrade Info Systems with Financial, Procurement Software

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Smart & Final said it will deploy financials and procurement software to help enhance financial visibility into its operations and support cost control processes.

The retailer, a regional non-membership warehouse store chain with 235 locations along the West Coast and northwestern Mexico, plans to install the financials and procurement modules from Lawson Software, St. Paul, Minn., which were developed to provide an enhanced financial systems platform to support ongoing store growth, according to Lawson.

"We've selected Lawson applications as an integral part of our strategic information systems upgrade program," said Richard Phegley, Smart & Final's s.v.p. and c.f.o. "The software has the ability to integrate with other best-in-class systems, and it has competitive total ownership cost and flexible reporting capabilities.

Los Angeles-based Smart & Final Inc. operates more than 235 non-membership warehouse stores for food and foodservice supplies in California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, and northwestern Mexico. The stores -- operating under the "Smart & Final" and "Smart Foodservice Cash & Carry" banners -- offer a broad range of restaurant-quality food, foodservice supplies, and culinary equipment.

"The Lawson applications will help Smart & Final realize benefits chain-wide including enhanced business processes, greater productivity, and operational efficiency," said Michelle Stroup, Lawson industry marketing director-retail. "The Lawson system will help enable core functional areas -- including real estate development, lease management, and asset management -- to share organization-wide data in real-time and support efficient monitoring of capital spending."
