ShopRite Store to Open in East Haven, Conn.

East Haven, Conn.’s Route 80 corridor will be the location of the brand-new ShopRite of East Haven, which is slated to open in the fall of 2013. When completed, a renovated shopping plaza will be known as ShopRite Plaza and feature the 59,000-square-foot supermarket.

“ShopRite’s arrival will be an enormous economic boost for the community, will provide hundreds of new job opportunities, and will complement the wonderful businesses currently operating on and around Route 80,” said East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr., who added that the store would employ “between 200 and 225 full- and part-time associates.”

The Garafalo family of Milford, Conn., owner and operator of ShopRite stores in Milford, Stratford, West Haven and Hamden, Conn., will own and operate the new store, which is to occupy the site of a former A&P.

Store features will include a fresh bake shop that can create custom wedding cakes; custom-cut fresh meats; fresh seafood delivered daily; a full-service floral department; a pharmacy with free nutritional counseling; a broad selection of ethnic foods; natural and organic products available throughout the store; and a large selection of gluten-free items.

At a later date, the store will offer the “ShopRite from Home” in-store pickup and delivery service, and the free services of an on-site dietitian.

Additionally, the supermarket will boast such energy-saving and sustainable technologies as LED and T-8 lighting and environmentally friendly refrigerant systems.

ShopRite is the registered trademark of Wakefern Food Corp., a Keasbey, N.J.-based retailer-owned cooperative with nearly 250 ShopRite supermarkets in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware and Maryland. ShopRite serves more than 5 million customers each week.
