'ShopRite Pavilion' to Champion Health and Wellness at Philly's Unity Day
ELIZABETH, N.J. -- ShopRite here said it will be a major health-and-wellness advocate at the 29th annual Unity Day in Philadelphia, setting up a pavilion at the celebration devoted to healthy eating.
Presented by local radio station WDAS-FM, Unity Day, a celebration of family values and community togetherness, will be held Sunday, Aug. 19 on the Ben Franklin Parkway.
"Unity Day is...a chance for us to share some information with our neighbors that can help them enhance their lives in a meaningful way," said ShopRite spokeswoman Karen Meleta in a statement.
The ShopRite Pavilion at the event will feature presentations on low-fat grilling by chef Joe Hunt; eating healthy on a budget, by Natalie Menza, the grocer's corporate dietitian; and high blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol by Linda Goodman, pharmacist at the ShopRite of Cheltenham in Philadelphia.
Each session will additionally include free drawings for gift baskets and other prizes, and all visitors to the pavilion can sample a variety of ShopRite and name brand products, courtesy of the cooperative and participating vendors.
The pavilion will also offer free blood-pressure screenings and feature activities by Colgate, whose Bright Smiles, Bright Futures Mobile Dental Van will offer free dental exams to children ages 1 through 12; Pantene, whose Style Studio will let visitors try out a new computer-simulated hairstyle and receive a souvenir photo; and Lawry's, which will offer samples of grilled chicken made with its seasonings and marinades.
Meleta told Progressive Grocer that ShopRite's involvement with Unity Day goes back at least 10 years and has grown much larger in past six or seven years.
