Shoppers Food and Pharmacy Promotes Four Executives

AUGUST 16, 2007 -- LANDOVER, Md. -- Shoppers Food and Pharmacy here said it has promoted four executives to s.v.p., v.p., and other posts.

Bob Gleeson has become s.v.p. of merchandising, reporting to president Dick Bergman. An industry veteran with over 20 years of experience under his belt, Gleeson most recently served as v.p. of all mass departments, and before that as director of grocery. In his new role he'll handle procurement, pricing, and the planning and execution of merchandising for Shoppers' perishable and mass departments. Advertising and customer relations will additionally report to him.

Jeff Bleichner is now v.p. of the mass departments. Since joining Shoppers 25 years ago, Bleichner has held a wide variety of positions in store operations, including store manager. For the past 10 years he has been a district manager in several areas of the company. Bleichner will now be responsible for procurement, pricing, merchandising planning, and execution of all the mass departments, reporting to Gleeson.

Dan Wiggington has become category manager, non-edible grocery, succeeding Mark Merrill in the position and reporting to director of grocery Rob Nickels. A Shoppers associate for 14 years, Wiggington rose through the ranks to become a store manager seven years ago, and since that time has managed increasingly larger-volume locations. In his new job he'll handle procurement, pricing, merchandising and planograms for nonfood grocery categories.

Mark Merrill is now senior category manager for the bakery and deli departments, reporting to director bakery/deli Ricardo DiMarzio. Merrill joined Supervalu in 1998 and became category manager of non-edible grocery at Shoppers last year. In his newly created role he'll head up procurement, pricing, and merchandising for the bakery and deli departments.
