Shoppers Appoints New Director of Baker

LANHAM, Md. -- Shoppers Food & Pharmacy, a division of Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Supervalu, said Friday that Mark Merrill was promoted to the position of director of bakery for the retailer’s 64 stores. In his new role Merrill will handle the leadership, planning, and execution of bakery operations at Shoppers. He will report to s.v.p. of merchandising Bob Gleeson.

Previously, Ricardo Dimarzio was the director of both bakery and deli, but with this appointment, Dimarzio will serve as director of deli, while Merrill will take over as the new director of bakery.

Merrill, who began his career in the food industry in 1979, joined Supervalu in 1998 as a retail business consultant in Spokane Wash. In February 2006 Mark came to Shoppers as a category manager in the grocery department, and in August 2007 he rose to the position of senior category manager deli/bakery.
