Shopko Starts Construction on New Concept Store
GREEN BAY, Wis. - Shopko Stores Operating Co., LLC here has begun construction on its first new full-line retail store to be built in nearly seven years in Suamico, Wis.
The prototype design is tme embodiment of a new logo and tagline -- "My Life. My Style. My Store."
"You always have to stay fresh -- the customer demands that," said Shopko chairman and c.e.o. Mike MacDonald. "What we tried to accomplish with this new store is a softer look and a more inviting atmosphere."
The 80,000-square-foot store, located on eight acres in a new 28-acre development being led by Midwest Expansion, is projected to open in the spring of 2008.
The new design, which will be used for future Shopko stores, incorporates a number of elements intended to give the store a stronger connection to women. The store's color, lighting, and fixturing all have been redesigned to create a warm, inviting, residential environment that allows the customer to easily see the merchandise and visualize how it might look in her home or on her body.
The store layout will feature the Pharmacy and Optical Center at the front of the store. Both departments will feature comfortable customer seating zones. The drive aisles and signage in the store are designed to make the customer shopping experience more efficient. Department adjacencies have been realigned and merchandise "stories" have been created. All parts of the store will allow for navigation by strollers and carts.
The chain's design partner on the project is Chute Gerdeman Retail, a Columbus-based design firm.
Shopko has stores located in 13 states throughout the Midwest, Mountain and Pacific Northwest regions including 132 Shopkos and three Shopko Express Rx stores, a convenient neighborhood drugstore concept.
