Shop 'n Save's Gebhard Named Among St. Louis' Most Influential Businesswomen

ST. LOUIS -- Marlene Gebhard, president of Shop 'n Save grocery stores based here, was named one of St. Louis' Most Influential Women in Business by the St. Louis Business Journal.

Gebhard was recognized not only for her business success, which includes leading over 4,000 employees at 36 grocery stores in the St. Louis and southern Illinois area, but also for her commitment to the company's philanthropic efforts. With Gerhard's support and encouragement, Shop 'n Save employees volunteer thousands of hours to Special Olympics through events such as its annual golf tournament, the Polar Bear Plunge, Poker Run and the East Side Games. All told, the company donated $625,000 to the organization in 2004.

"This award confirms what we at SUPERVALU have long known," said John Hooley, e.v.p. and president of Supervalu's retail food companies, which is the parent of the Shop 'n Save banner group. "In fact, we consider Marlene not only to be one of the most influential women in St. Louis, but in the grocery retail industry overall."
