Sheetz Celebrates New Era of Convenience With Harrisburg Opening

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Pioneering retailer Sheetz, Inc., continues to raise the bar on convenience, as evidenced by its latest 7,000-square-foot store that opened here last month.

The newest format of the chain, which operates 315 stores across six eastern and Mid-Atlantic states, aims to offer customers a fun, high-energy, restaurant-style atmosphere. A red-brick exterior welcomes shoppers into a bright interior with high ceilings and seating for more than 40 people. Once inside, customers can access digital menu boards that show food selections, which can be easily and quickly ordered at electronic touchscreen order kiosks.

"The Harrisburg location is our vision for the future," said Louie Sheetz, marketing e.v.p. for the Altoona, Pa.-based chain. "We have blended the best from our convenience restaurants with what our customers have told us they want from a convenience retailer to create a unique destination that easily fits into everyday life."

Sheetz' broad menu, prepared in an open kitchen environment, includes a variety of made-to-order items, many of which were first introduced at the company's convenience restaurant concepts in Altoona, Pa. and Raleigh, N.C. In Harrisburg, customers find cold and toasted subs, panini, hand-tossed salads, and brick oven pizza. Also added is a "Fryz" menu, including onion rings and chicken fingers, a Kidz menu and the Sheetz Bros. Coffeez Espresso Bar staffed by a professional barista.

New convenience items include a self-serve bakery, bulk candy and peanut dispensers, a cold grab-and-go case, Teazzer iced tea, and self-serve milk shakes. Customers can also place food orders from touchscreen terminals located at the gas island while fueling up with Sheetz' 100 percent-guaranteed petroleum products -- with the added convenience of cash or credit pay-at-the-pump on all fuel purchases.

Sheetz has also installed systemwide MasterCard PayPass, which allows customers to simply tap their PayPass-enabled card on a specially equipped terminal, eliminating the need for customers to hand over their cards to a merchant or manually swipe them through a reader.
