SFM’s 1st Golf Classic Raises $100K-plus

Southern Family Markets/Bruno’s/Food World’s (SFM) inaugural Charity Golf Classic, held May 19 at Bent Brook Golf Course in Bessemer, Ala., and attended by many of the grocer’s vendors, partners and employees, raised more than $100,000 for area charities.

At a dinner the night before the tournament (left), SFM president Max Henderson and VP of sales and marketing Mike Mock presented checks for $25,000 apiece to the Salvation Army, Red Cross, United Way and United Way Community Food Bank.

“Although planning for the Charity Golf Classic was already well underway when the April tornados came through Alabama, we are very grateful to all of our vendors and partners who participated in this tournament, enabling Southern Family Markets to help those who are helping to rebuild the state,” said Henderson. “The organizations we were able to support are a big part of the relief efforts cleaning up after the storms and helping our neighbors not only reconstruct their homes, but [also] put their lives back together. We certainly appreciate all they are doing.”

The Birmingham, Ala.-based company anticipates many more such events, in fulfillment of one of its core values, Community Commitment.
