SFM Bowing 2 Extreme-discount Stores

Southern Family Markets (SFM) plans to open two stores under the new prototype Food World Discount Foods extreme-discount banner, which will stock such items as bonus pack and big-pack quantities, on Wednesday, July 27 in Decatur, Ala. Food World Discount Foods will offer shoppers significant savings and lower everyday prices without compromising quality or requiring discount cards

Grand-opening festivities will include a kids’ coloring contest; grocery bag giveaways for 200 customers, featuring such popular items as Frito-Lay and Golden Flake chips, Nature’s Own White Wheat Bread, Little Debbie snacks, Pepsi 2-liter bottles and Glaceau Vitamin Water; and daily in-store demos and samples.

“We know our customers are looking for more ways to save on groceries without sacrificing name brands or quality,” noted Max Henderson, president of Birmingham, Ala.-based SFM. “Food World Discount Foods is all about providing more ways to save -- we wanted to make a positive change for the consumer with low, low everyday prices and top-quality products.”

The banner’s programs will include “Truckload Meat Deals,” which will package larger quantities of commonly purchased meat for families’ use. The Meat Deals will range in size from 20 to a whopping 238 pounds per package.

Food World Discount Foods will also carry food items most frequently bought by consumers. In addition to name brands, customers can choose from the stores' Best Yet and Value Time private label products.

Southern Family Markets also operates Bruno’s, Food World and Southern Family Markets locations, along with select Piggly Wiggly stores in Mississippi, Georgia and lower Alabama.
