Sealed Air’s Cryovac Debuts Oven Ease Ovenable Bag

Sealed Air’s Cryovac brand has rolled out a new Oven Ease ovenable bag for bone-in or boneless products such as ribs, roasts, whole turkeys, roasters and hams. Available in widths from 8 to 16 inches, the Oven Ease bag allows pre-seasoned items to be cooked inside the same material they’re packaged in, reducing prep time, cleanup time and, in some cases, cooking time.

Featuring exceptional clarity, the latest addition to Cryovac’s dynamic packaging lineup can be used with cook-from-raw or reheated applications. With the ability to withstand temperatures up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit for two hours or 375 degrees Fahrenheit for four hours, Oven Ease bags can cook a rack of ribs in about one hour and a whole roaster in an hour and a half.

In addition to the convenience-related consumer benefits, Oven Ease bags run on existing rotary chamber systems, offering an easy changeover for processors. “This new ovenable offering is a great opportunity for our customers to enter into the value-added market with minimal capital investment,” said Don Smith, marketing director for Duncan, S.C.-based Sealed Air’s Cryovac ovenable products. The new application “also presents an opportunity to expand the seasonality of retail items such as ribs, which consumers usually associate with summer grilling, and to attract consumers to value cuts, such as roasts, that they were not previously comfortable with cooking,” explained Smith.

What’s more, Oven Ease — which is vacuum-packaged and thus freezer-ready — can easily expand foodservice offerings with an impressive holding time, keeping items hot in the package hours after they’ve been removed from the oven.
