Seafood Dips at A&P Recalled Due to Listeria Risk

MONTVALE, N.J. -- Ready-to-eat seafood dips manufactured by Philadelphia-based Ocean King Enterprises and distributed through A&P warehouses have been recalled because of possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

The products, which arrived at the warehouses in bulk five-pound containers, were distributed to stores through A&P (C&S) Hatfield in Hatfield, Mass.; A&P (C&S) Baltimore in North East, Md.; and A&P (C&S) Woodbridge in Woodbridge, N.J.

The dips were sold in the value added and deli sections of stores in clear plastic containers under the Regal King Gourmet Seafood brand in Premium Krab Dip, Cajun Krab Dip, Shrimp Dip, and Smoked Salmon Dip flavors.

The recall was issued after an independent systemic sampling program conducted by Ocean King Enterprises showed that one finished product contained the bacteria. The company has ceased production and distribution of the product, and FDA and Ocean King Enterprises are investigating what caused the problem.

No illnesses have been reported to date. Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with compromised immune systems.

Consumers who bought the dips are being urged to return the product to the store for a full refund.
