Schnucks, Stater Bros. Among Grocers Sampling for the Holidays

ST. LOUIS and COLTON, Calif. -- Schnucks and Stater Bros. joined with Cerritos, Calif.-based sampling promotions expert Mass Connections for seasonal promotions with unique twists. Illinois Schnucks stores welcomed the holidays at via in-store tasting events in the Bloomington, Champaign, Springfield, Urbana, and Peoria areas, while Stater Bros. has begun gearing up for the Rose Parade with a unique promotion.

Schnucks shoppers braved severe weather to enjoy the chain's latest fresh products, including smoked salmon and shrimp party trays, sliced ham and turkey, stuffed mushrooms, deli dips, homemade soups, and select pizzas. Visitors to the events also enjoyed Volpi Rotola, Garlic Expressions & Monterrey Mushrooms, jumbo Anjou pears, Swiss American cheeses, and Parker Farms Salsas.

More than 70 Mass Connections event personnel were on hand to promote the Schnucks events, said Mass Connections president and c.e.o. Caroline Cotten Nakken, The company tracked performance of the promotional events through its MC Card.

Stater Bros., meanwhile, is working with Mass Connections to plan the chain's seventh year as a participant in the Rose Parade, this time with the special twist that Stater Bros. is also celebrating its 70th year in business. The chain will offer a Goodie Bag to parade attendees that is part of a marketing co-op program developed by Mass Connections.

The Goodie Bag features a variety of free product samples from such companies as ConAgra, Hershey, Kraft, Nestle, Kellogg, and Wrigley, in addition to product coupons. Mass Connections and Stater Bros. will distribute the bags to more than 30,000 parade attendees.

"The 30,000 Goodie Bags will be an added treat for many of the spectators at this year's Rose Parade," said Stater Bros. chairman and c.e.o. Jack H. Brown.

The Rose Parade is expeced be watched over 1 million spectators at the scene, as well as millions of TV viewers across the United States.

Schnucks operates 101 stores (including five Logli stores) and 98 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Mississippi and Iowa.

Stater Bros. operates 162 supermarkets and employs over 17,000 associates. The company also owns and operates Heartland Farms, provider of Knudsen Dairy products to Southern California.
