Schnucks Readies New Concept DeKalb Store for Dec. 4 Debut

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Schnucks Markets here is applying the finishing touches to its newest concept DeKalb Marketplace store that will open its doors next Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Scott Schnuck, the family-held grocer's chairman/c.e.o., said his chain's focus on customers "has [never] been more apparent then in this new marketplace store," which is in Glidden Crossing shopping center at 975 South Annie Glidden Rd. "We are anxious to get reactions from DeKalb area customers who, we believe, will find the new layout easy to shop," Schnuck added.

The new unit is a variation of a floor plan that recently debuted elsewhere in St. Louis. "Our engineers came up with an exciting floor plan that includes wider, family friendly aisles," noted DeKalb store manager Dave Sherman, formerly manager of the chain's nearby Rockford store. "At 58,000 square feet, it's a full-service food and drug store, but the new layout makes it possible to shop only those areas of the stores you need. There is nothing like it in the market."

The store offers a custom floral department, in-store bakery, expansive deli department, seafood section, and full-service meat department that will feature Certified Angus Beef. Deli includes a made-to-order sandwich shop, a fresh-soup kiosk, a food and salad bar and an olive bar.

"Our DeKalb store will be one of the first to open with all of the new amenities we have added over the past few months," said Schnuck. "Along with our quality products and services, we [will] bring added value through our new low pricing philosophy, grand opening values, and our newly launched Free Generic Prescription Antibiotic Program."

The store has a drive-up pharmacy. Schnucks recently said its pharmacies will offer for free up to a 21-day supply of 54 antibiotics in seven different families (including the often prescribed amoxicillin, ciprofloxacin and penicillin) to customers with a valid prescription.

Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates 102 stores (including five Logli stores) and 99 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi.
