Schnucks Joins Salvation Army in Launch of Kids Donut Line
ST. LOUIS - Schnuck Markets, Inc. here is teaming up with The Salvation Army to launch a new Kids' Donuts line through a fundraiser in honor of National Salvation Army Week.
Bill Mihu, Schnucks v.p. of bakery, said the family-held chain's bakers designed the donuts as neon-colored treats to appeal to kids. The new donuts are available in five varieties including two kinds of "Long Johns," heart-shaped, neon with sprinkles and jelly, any of which are appropriate for "birthdays, play dates or everyday fun," Mihu said.
Schnucks said it will donate $1 for every box of a dozen donuts sold during National Salvation Army Week, which is this week.
Schnucks said it chose donuts for its fundraiser because The Salvation Army has a long history of offering homemade donuts and hot coffee to those in need, and Schnucks is the only local supermarket that makes its own fresh in-store donuts.
"This an important opportunity for us to support a great cause and at the same time promote the quality and variety of our fresh donut program," Mihu said.
Salvation Army City Cmdr. Major Lonneal Richardson commended Schnucks "for making this significant effort to help us raise the funds we need."
Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates 101 stores (including five Logli stores) and 98 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi.
