Schnucks Helps Expand Access to Gluten-free Products

Schnuck Markets, Inc. is teaming up with a manufacturer of gluten-free foods to increase availability of such products in the St. Louis metropolitan area.

Schnucks director of marketing services Larry Maggio said the company has seen an increase in demand for gluten-free products. Collaborating with Ellisville, Mo.-based Beck’s Gluten Free will make a wide range of fresh and prepared gluten-free foods available to more consumers. Customers can order products by phone or over either company’s Web site for delivery to one of 13 select Schnucks locations in as little as one day.

“Thanks to our new partnership with Beck’s, we are now able to extend our selection of national and private-brand products that carry the ‘gluten free’ label to include fresh baked goods and prepared foods,” Maggio said.

Gluten intolerance, commonly known as celiac disease, is an autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten protein found in wheat, barley and rye, and used in a wide range of beverages and foods.

Beck’s products include breakfast items, appetizers, soups, salads, entrees, side dishes, sauces, pizzas, breads, pastries and cakes. Schnucks also sells several specialty gluten-free products from Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods and offers Anheuser-Busch Redbridge beer, which is certified safe for those on gluten-free diets.

St. Louis-based Schnucks operates 106 stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi.
