Schnucks Celebrates 30 Years of Service to Cape Girardeau

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Customers and associates of Schnucks' Cape Girardeau supermarket joined local dignitaries recently in celebration of the store's three decades of service to Southeast Missouri.

The Cape Girardeau location was the first combination food and drug store for family-owned Schnuck Markets, Inc. On hand for the event was Schnucks executive committee chairman Craig Schnuck, who was also present at the grand opening of the original Schnucks-Walgreens store on Nov. 16, 1976. Only five years later in 1981, Schnucks would purchase Walgreens' interest in the partnership.

"Thirty years ago, the Cape community helped us to launch a new store and to pilot a new concept," said Schnuck. "Because of the conveniences they offered and the growing number of customers interested in eating healthy and maintaining healthy lifestyles, we knew combination food and drug stores represented the future of food retailing. We are grateful to our Cape customers for their support over the years. Customer loyalty and the consistently high levels of service and community support provided by Schnucks associates are the keys to Schnucks' longevity and success in this market."

Speaking of the value the retailer places on its loyal customers, store manager Denny Marchi said: "Every customer is valued here at Schnucks, and our associates work hard everyday to thank them for their patronage. However, on this special day, we want to invite everyone to stop by the store and celebrate with us."

Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates 101 stores (including five Logli stores) and 98 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Iowa.
