Schnucks Adds Floral Specialist

ST. LOUIS - Just in time for one of the busiest weeks for floral supermarket sales, Michael Schrader has joined Schnucks Markets Inc. here as its new floral category manager/ buyer.

In the new post, Schrader will oversee the buying of all floral and gift products for the family chain's Focus on Design dedicated floral design center, as well as its 98 in-store floral outlets in seven states.

Schrader comes to Schnucks from Botanicals on the Park, where for the past eight years he was a manager/buyer, responsible for sourcing and buying fresh cut flowers, giftware and seasonal goods and developing the custom floral displays. Prior to that, he was involved in sales and purchasing for 14 years at Baisch and Skinner, Inc. of St. Louis.

Schrader said he is looking forward to taking Schnucks floral division to a higher level with themed floral statements, exotic stems and an expanded selection of giftware.

"More than ever before, flowers are an integral part of the decor in homes across the nation," said Schrader, adding that he will help Schnucks introduce "emerging flower varieties to complement gift items that are upscale and on trend. These combinations will lead to exciting new possibilities in color themes and home accessorizing styles."

Currently, Schnucks' Focus on Design team is gearing up for nine truckloads of roses, which will be used in bouquets and arrangements for special Valentine's Day deliveries.

"It's without a doubt our most exciting time of the year," said Schrader. "Our supply chain is extensive to ensure our customers have access to the best quality cut flowers."

Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates 101 stores (including five Logli stores) and 98 pharmacies and 98-in-store floral departments in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi.
