Schnuck Markets First to Earn PBH Retail Role Model Status

Schnuck Markets is the first grocer to attain Produce for Better Health Foundation's (PBH) Supermarket Retail Role Model honors for its support of PBH's Fruits & Veggies-More Matters health initiative.

"Schnucks believes that increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables is an easy way to move all Americans toward better health," said Mike O'Brien, Schnuck's v.p./produce and floral. "I hope other retailers step up their Fruits & Veggies-More Matters promotion efforts in 2008 and beyond to become role models as well."

Throughout 2007, "Schnuck Markets exhibited a true commitment to support the Fruits and Veggies-More Matters brand," said Elizabeth Pivonka, Ph.D., R.D., PBH's president and c.e.o. "Schnuck's has played a significant role in distributing the message of increasing fruit and vegetable consumption for better health across all areas by featuring the Fruits & Veggies-More Matters logo in the fresh section and on its private label canned and frozen vegetables."

To achieve status as a PBH Role Model, retailers must meet all of the following criteria, which includes: providing advertising support through both routine ads and special promotions; providing in-store messaging via point-of-sale materials such as signs, bag rolls, stickers, and labels link to PBH's consumer website and; creating a Fruits & Veggies-More Matters page or section on the retailer's own website while expanding the brand's message through at least one additional media form, such as an in-store magazine or newsletter, in-store audio message, consumer handout or out-of-store broadcast feature.
