Save-A-Lot Set To Open Five Stores in Texas
ST. LOUIS -- Save-A-Lot, based here, said it will open five stores in Texas within the next month. Two will be in Houston, while the others will be located in Brownsville, Harlingen, and Victoria.
"The new Texas Gulf Coast stores are a strategic market expansion for us and represent our second phase of openings in the region," said Bill Shaner, Save-A-Lot president and c.e.o. "Save-A-Lot's edited-assortment retailing model and nationwide buying power allows us to offer the best-quality groceries at up to 40 percent savings over traditional grocers."
Save-A-Lot entered the Texas market in the early 1990s, and today there are more than 30 Save-A-Lot stores in North and West Texas. The company first entered the Gulf Coast region in November 2006 with three new stores: two in Houston and one in Brownsville.
Stores will each carry about 1,250 of the most frequently purchased groceries, including fresh meat, fruits and vegetables, dairy products, canned goods and packaged items, multiethnic food items, frozen foods, and more, plus nonfood products like health and beauty care items. Save-A-Lot also offers a selection of unique general merchandise items, including houseware and hardware items.
In addition to the Texas market, Save-A-Lot also opened its first store in St. Ann, Mo., today. The new store joins approximately two-dozen existing Save-A-Lot stores in the St. Louis area. The chain is also cutting the ribbon on a new store this week in Gloversville, N.Y., and in the coming weeks will open new locations in Springfield, Ore. and Hazel Dell, Wash., a suburb of Vancouver, Wash., which continues Save-A-Lot's entrance into the Pacific Northwest. Other new store locations on tap include sites in Tacoma and Pasco, Wash., as well as Portland and Milwaukie, Ore. Save-A-Lot's Pacific Northwest locations are supported by a state-of-the-art distribution center in Portland, Ore.
