Save-a-Lot Opens New Chicago Stores

St. Louis-based Save-a-Lot has opened five new supermarkets in communities on Chicago’s South Side.

In a March 3 ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new store at 8240 S. Stony Island Ave., community neighbors were joined by Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel; Aldermen Michelle Harris and Alderman Latasha Thomas; and representatives from Save-A-Lot, including CEO Bill Shaner; parent company Supervalu; the Greater Chicago Food Depository; and the Centers for New Horizons.

Emanuel and city officials addressed the crowd and company executives presented a $25,000 donation to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
