Sam’s Club to Hold Free Women’s Health Screenings
To mark Women’s Health Month and help fight breast cancer, Sam’s Club will provide free women’s health and vision screenings on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at all of its locations with a pharmacy. The screenings are open to members and non-members alike.
Sam’s Clubs across the country are also giving away more than 25,000 breast self-exam kits during the event, while supplies last. The kits feature educational literature on breast self-exams and a gel-filled pad to help women better detect changes in breast tissue, such as a lump, that might require a follow-up exam by a doctor.
Along with the kits, the screening program offers free in-club tests for both men and women valued at up to $150, among them those for thyroid-stimulating hormones, prostate-specific antigens, blood pressure, body mass index, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, glucose, and vision (in locations with an Optical Center).
“Many health issues affecting women often do not show symptoms and can be identified only with testing,” noted Jill Turner-Mitchael, SVP, Sam’s Club Health and Wellness. “For the second year in a row, Sam’s Club is committed to offering free screenings and kits that lift awareness of important women's health concerns like breast cancer to better serve the communities in which we live and work.”
Additionally, the retailer offers women’s health tips in its current issue of Healthy Living Made Simple Magazine, available online and at Sam’s Club Pharmacy and Member Service counters.
Further, Sam’s Club now offers immunizations for such common illnesses as flu, pneumonia, shingles, chicken pox and whooping cough, all administered by registered nurses.
Sam’s Club, a division of Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc., offers products and services to more than 47 million members in clubs in the United States, as well as in Brazil, China and Mexico.
