Sam’s Club Helps Consumers Look After Their Hearts
Sam’s Club will offer free heart-health screenings for members and guests on Feb. 9, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at its 563 locations with pharmacies. The screenings include free health tests valued at up to $100, for such crucial factors as blood glucose, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI).
“Sam’s Club reinforces our commitment to health and wellness by educating our communities about the importance of a healthy heart,” noted Jill Turner-Mitchael, SVP, Sam’s Club Health and Wellness. “In honor of February’s Heart Health Awareness Month, free Sam’s Club health screenings offer individuals the opportunity to manage their heart health by first learning where they stand with several cardiovascular disease risk factors.”
The division of Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has provided more than 2.2 million free health screenings since 2010, and will continue to offer them every second Saturday of the month through October 2013.
Sam’s Club pharmacy patients can also take advantage of the SoloHealth Station, an interactive, comprehensive health-and-wellness screening kiosk found at all locations with a pharmacy. The kiosk performs screenings for vision, blood pressure, weight and body mass index, as well as an overall health assessment, free of charge.
The retailer further offers several heart-health tips and recipes in the January/February 2013 issue of its Healthy Living Made Simple Magazine, which is available at Sam’s Club Pharmacy locations, member service counters and online. Members can visit this site or text SCREEN to 72671 to get monthly reminders about health screenings at nearby Sam’s Club locations.
Sam’s Club has more than 47 million members in clubs across the United States, as well as in Brazil, China and Mexico.
