Sam’s Club Adds Alcohol to Online Ordering Program

Sam’s Club has added wine, spirits and beer to its online order-ahead program, “Click n’ Pull.” There are now over 1,000 alcohol items to choose from on the samsclub.com Web site, including wines from around the globe. Club members may also submit product reviews to share their thoughts on the products with others.

Click n’ Pull enables Sam’s Club members to shop by club location and order in advance, selecting from a wide range of items. Orders placed by 5 p.m. can be picked up the next day. The wholesale club division of Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. expects to offer about 3,000 wines, beers and spirits through the online ordering service by early next year.

“Consumers are using the Web more and more to research product and to buy directly for convenience,” noted Sam’s Club senior director, merchandising Mark Kenny, adding that the aim of the program addition is “to make our wine, spirits and beer offering more accessible to our members and to give them relevant information about the product or ratings from others.”

Most Sam’s Clubs that sell wine, beer or spirits are able to offer the product on Click n’ Pull. While membership isn’t necessary to buy wine, beer and spirits at club locations, the use of Click n’ Pull is exclusive to members, who can access the service on samsclub.com under the “Click n’ Pull” tab and grocery section featured as alcohol. Members must choose the club they want to shop before they can view the alcohol items.

Sam’s Club serves over 47 million U.S. members with locations nationwide, as well as in Brazil, China, Mexico and Puerto Rico.
