Sampson Named Jewel-Osco Pres

Shane Sampson, president of New Albertson’s Inc.’s (NAI) Shaw’s and Star Markets division in Boston, has been appointed president of the company’s Jewel-Osco banner in Chicago. Jim Rice will succeed Sampson as president of Shaw’s.

Sampson began his career with Albertson’s as a courtesy clerk and later held positions at the store, district and division levels. He also served as division president in the Intermountain and Florida divisions of Albertson’s. Prior to joining NAI in March 2013, he was senior VP operations at Giant Food.

Rice, who joined the Jewel-Osco team in August 2013 and was named interim division president in January 2014, began with Albertsons in California as a part-time associate. He served as a district manager in Florida and Las Vegas prior to being named Northern California division VP from 1995-1999, and later Southwest division president, a position he held until 2005.

According to Justin Dye, NAI’s COO, these executive changes "will accelerate our progress in our aspiration to be the best food and drug retailer in the neighborhoods that we are privileged to serve. We have aggressive goals set for 2014 in both market areas that we are supporting with significant remodels and new store openings in both areas,” he said.

Boise-based New Albertson’s, Inc. operates 445 stores and four distribution centers across 12 states in the Midwest and Northeast.
