Safeway Recalls Ground Beef
In Oregon, Washington and Montana, Safeway has launched a voluntary recall of ground beef items that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.
The Pleasanton,Calif.-based supermarket chain is working in cooperation with the USDA Food Safety Information Service public health alert. Safeway was informed by Interstate Meat Distributors that ground beef products imported from Canada by XL Foods Inc. for Safeway were subject to XL Foods Inc.'s expanded recall.
No illnesses have been reported to date. Safeway is issuing this recall "out of an abundance of caution."
The recalled products have Sell By dates of Sept. 7 to Sept 23. Safeway is asking its customers to check all ground beef in their refrigerators and freezers. Recalled products were sold from the self-service meat cooler, from the full-service meat counter and pre-packaged products distributed by Interstate Meat Distributors.
