Safeway Promotes 2 Marketing Execs; Puts Signature Beef Online

PLEASANTON, Calif. -- Safeway promoted David Lee to president, general manager, non-perishables, and also charged him with overseeing the company's health and wellness operation, which includes its pharmacy and health and beauty care business.

Most recently Lee was s.v.p., beverages, alcohol, snacks, and tobacco. He will now have overall responsibility for the company's non-perishable marketing functions including grocery, home care, and general merchandise.

"David has emerged as a key leader in our center store initiatives," said Brian Cornell, Safeway e.v.p. and c.m.o. "His proven ability to get results managing a range of non-perishable business groups will serve him well in his new role."

Lee came to Safeway from Vons, where he worked his way through a number of retail and marketing positions. He has managed various non-perishable units at Safeway since he joined the company's corporate marketing team in 2000.

The company also appointed Rojon Hasker as president, general manager, perishables and lifestyle. Hasker will oversee the perishable marketing functions including produce, floral, meat, seafood, food service, and bakery. She will also manage Lifestyle store marketing initiatives where perishables have become the cornerstone of the company's new format.

Hasker began her Safeway career in 1972 in the company's Seattle division, and worked her way through the retail ranks to president of Safeway's Phoenix division. She joined the corporate marketing team in 2003 and managed the company through its transition to centralized marketing.

"Rojon's leadership on the perishable side of the business has transformed our perimeter departments," said Cornell. "Under her guidance we have dramatically improved the quality, selection and presentation of our perishable offerings."

Both Lee and Hasker will continue to report to Cornell.
