Safeway to Offer New Prepaid Cards
PLEASANTON, Calif. -- Safeway here plans to sell prepaid debit cards at 1,200 of its stores. The cards will be supplied by Netspend, a marketer and processor of re-loadable, prepaid debit cards, and will be available in two versions: The All-Access Visa Prepaid Debit Card, a general purpose re-loadable debit card, and the All-Access Visa Gift Card, available in $25, $50 and $100 denominations.
The All-Access Visa Prepaid Debit Card costs consumers $9.95. Shoppers can load funds onto it at their discretion; no credit check or bank account is required. This card will also feature the All Access National Savings Program, which allows cardholders to link their prepaid debit card to an interest-bearing savings account. The card funds, including the savings account, are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Consumers can use the All-Access prepaid debit products -- which are issued by Inter National Bank in McAllen, Texas -- can be used wherever Visa debit cards are accepted. In addition, the cards offer protection from fraudulent or unauthorized transactions if they are lost or stolen.
Safeway operates 1,801 stores in the Western, Southwestern, Rocky Mountain, and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States and in western Canada,
