Safeway Names New Randalls Division President

PLEASANTON, Calif. - Safeway Inc. announced on Tuesday that Steve Frisby, president of GroceryWorks for the past year, and a 30-year Safeway retail veteran, has been named president of the company's Randalls division. He succeeds Frank Lazaran, who left the company.

Frisby joined Safeway in 1972 as a food clerk and progressed through a range of retail assignments in three separate divisions. He was promoted to vice president, retail operations in the Northern California Division in 1993, and assumed the same position in the company's Portland Division three years later. He was named president of GroceryWorks in April 2001. GroceryWorks is Safeway Inc.'s exclusive provider for online grocery shopping and home delivery.

"Steve's done an outstanding job at GroceryWorks, and has an exceptional track record as line executive at Safeway," said Steven A. Burd, Safeway chairman, president and CEO. "His experience and demonstrated leadership skills in a number of highly competitive retail markets leave him well suited to his new duties at Randalls."
