Safeway Names New Eastern Division President
PLEASANTON, Calif. -- Safeway Inc. yesterday named Steve Neibergall president of the company's Eastern Division, replacing Hank Cominiello, who will be joining the company's corporate retail operations team as group v.p., retail initiatives.
Neibergall joined Safeway in 1989 as a store manager trainee in the company's Phoenix Division, where he progressed through a range of retail store and district manager assignments. He was promoted to v.p., retail operations in the Northern California Division in 2000, and the same position at Dominick's in 2002 and Phoenix in 2004. He was promoted to s.v.p., produce and floral in 2005, and had held that position until now.
"Steve has proven himself across a broad range of challenging retail and marketing assignments," said Safeway chairman, president, and c.e.o. Steve Burd. "Under Steve's leadership in produce and floral, we have been able to build on our already strong reputation for quality and innovation."
Safeway operates 1,755 stores in the United States and Canada and had annual sales of $40.2 billion in 2006.
