Safeway Names New Denver Division President

DENVER - Safeway, Inc. has announced the appointment of Scott Grimmett as president of the company's five-state Denver Division.

Grimmett, 44, began his food retailing career as a part-time Safeway courtesy clerk in Seattle. During his 26 years with Safeway, he has held various retail positions in the company's Seattle and Northern California Divisions, including store manager and district manager.

In 1999, following a year on Safeway's corporate operations and administrative staff in Pleasanton, Calif., he joined Safeway-owned Dominick's Finer Foods in Chicago as v.p. of retail operations. He was later promoted to president of Dominick's, the post he held prior to his appointment as president of Safeway's Denver Division.

Safeway's Denver Division operates 143 supermarkets in five states -- Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico, South Dakota and Wyoming.
