Safeway Makes Change in Top Spot at Dominick's
PLEASANTON, CaIif.--Safeway Inc. here said yesterday that it will bring Bruce Everette, executive vice president, back to Safeway headquarters from Dominick's, where he had been responsible for leading the Chicago-based division since September 2004. Everette's successor at Dominick's will be Don Keprta, who has been serving as vice president, retail support there since March of 2005, Safeway said.
Back at Safeway, Everette will take on broader retail responsibilities, and will continue to be one of the company's top five executive officers and a member of the corporate real estate committee, the company said.
"We appreciate the leadership that Bruce provided during his time in Chicago," said Steve Burd, Chairman, President and CEO. "We are looking forward to having him back at headquarters, with the ability to help guide our retail operations, utilizing his wealth of experience." Burd added, "We are also fortunate that Don Keprta joined Safeway last February with extensive and valuable experience in our industry, and has been working closely with Bruce in Chicago for eight months."
Mr. Keprta began his career in food retailing more than 35 years ago with Lucky Stores, where he took on increasing responsibility, ultimately acting as executive vice president and general manager of Lucky Stores in Northern California. After the acquisition of Lucky by Albertson's, Keprta was named Northern California Region President for the latter company, overseeing approximately 200 stores. He later served as senior vice president, retail for Andronico's Markets in the Bay Area, before joining Safeway in February of 2005.
Safeway Inc. operates 1,800 stores in the United States and Canada, and had annual sales of $35.8 billion in 2004.
