Safeway Exec VP Resigns
PLEASANTON, Calif. - Safeway Inc. announced on Tuesday that Rick Dreiling has resigned his position as executive VP of the company's marketing, manufacturing and distribution functions. The company did not give a reason for Dreiling's resignation, but announced that a successor will be named shortly.
"We appreciate Rick's significant contribution over more than 33 years with the company," said Steven A. Burd, chairman, president and CEO. "He has overseen the monumental task of centralizing our procurement and merchandising function and assembled a strong marketing team that is well positioned to capitalize on the significant sales opportunities ahead."
Dreiling began his career with Safeway in the stores in 1969. He worked his way through the retail ranks and held a range of management positions in a number of different operating divisions through the years. He was promoted to President of Vons in 1998, and his current position in 1999.
