Rutter’s Teams With Nell’s Shurfine Stores For Gasoline Program

In a partnership with Rutter’s Farm Stores, Nell’s Shurfine grocery customers may now measure savings by the gallon of gasoline, according to Rutter’s Web site.

Nell’s recently introduced “Gas Cash Rewards” as part of a revamping of its Gold Card loyalty program. For every $100 spent on groceries, Gold Card grocery shoppers earn a savings of 10 cents per gallon. Additional cents-off savings can be earned by purchasing specially marked products.

The gas savings can be redeemed at any of Rutter’s 55 convenience stores throughout central Pennsylvania and be used on purchases of gasoline, diesel or kerosene, the c-store operator noted.

Last fall, Rutter’s introduced “Rutter’s Rewards,” which allows customers to earn cents off gasoline by purchasing one of more than 1,600 everyday items bearing a special display icon. Rutter’s Rewards are redeemed at the gas pump using a magnetic stripe card.

“In the first three months since we introduced Rutter’s Rewards, we’ve put the card in the hands of more than 100,000 of our customers,” said Scott Hartman, president and CEO of York, Pa.-based Rutter’s Farm Stores. “We’re able to reward customer loyalty, and customers can see an immediate benefit from continuing to shop at our stores. I’m sure Nell’s grocery customers will make a similar connection.”

Nell’s is owned by Associated Wholesalers Inc. (AWI), a Robesonia, Pa.-based grocery wholesaler and retailer cooperative. AWI serves members and customers that operate supermarkets and convenience stores throughout the eastern United States.
