Roundy’s Readies Chicago-Area Store, Plans to Reveal New Ill. Banner Name

Roundy’s Supermarkets, Inc., is gearing up to open a 68,000-square-foot supermarket at the site of The Lattof Chevrolet building on Northwest Highway, southeast of downtown Chicago, in Arlington Heights, Ill. A new name will be given to Roundy’s new chain of stores in Illinois, said Vivian King, director of public affairs, was quoted as saying in a report in the Chicago Daily Herald, although the name is not ready to be released, she added.

After the Lattof building is demolished, underground tanks will have to be removed and permits obtained before site work and excavation can begin, according to local developers, who were unable to specify a timetable for when construction would begin or when the store would open.

King said that once Roundy’s has signed a lease with the developer of the new Arlington Heights store, the company would reveal when it would be built.

As previously reported, Milwaukee-based Roundy’s Supermarkets, which operates 152 retail grocery stores under the Pick ’n Save, Copps, Rainbow and Metro Market banners in Wisconsin and Minnesota, is working on a number of sites in the Chicago area.
