Roundy's Foundation Food Tour II Visits Minnesota & Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE -- Roundy's Supermarkets, Inc.'s Rainbow, Pick 'n Save, and Copps stores will deliver 281,000 pounds of food valued at $265,056 to food pantries throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin this week.

The deliveries, which will take place over five days, are part of "Roundy's on the Road: A Foundation Food Tour II" sponsored by the Roundy's Foundation. This week's effort marks the second such endeavor, the first of which took place in September 2006.

The tour, which runs through Friday, March 30, began with a kickoff rally Monday at the Rainbow supermarket at 1566 University Avenue in St. Paul, Minn. At each stop, store teams from Rainbow, Pick 'n Save, or Copps will help unload food.

At the kickoff and other stops, Roundy's Foundation will award an additional $47,500 to various organizations, bringing the total value of donations over the five days to $312,556.

"Roundy's on the Road" will make a total of 20 stops, visiting St. Paul, Minnetonka, St. Paul Park, and Brooklyn Park, Minn., and the Wisconsin communities of Middleton, Monroe, Janesville, Burlington, Sussex, Oshkosh, Wisconsin Rapids, Marshfield, Appleton, Green Bay, West Bend, Germantown, and Milwaukee.

Other special events along the tour will take place in Appleton and Milwaukee, including a big food-sorting event in Green Bay, where 13 food pantries will receive three truckloads of food.

Dedicated to hunger relief, families in crisis, and literacy, Roundy's Foundation has given more than $1 million to organizations focused on those areas of need since its inception in 2003. Major grant recipients include food banks, women and family violence shelters, and literacy programs.
