Retailers Honored for Best Practices in Periodical Retailing

WASHINGTON - Wal-Mart, Wegmans, H-E-B, and Marsh Supermarkets were recognized at the 2003 Retail Conference & Expo: Marketing Magazines and Books, co-hosted by the Magazine Publishers of America and the International Periodical Distributors Association, for "Best Practices" in periodical retailing. The awards are voted on by publishers, wholesalers and national distributors.

Wal-Mart Stores was recognized for excellence in cross-merchandising/promotion, as well as excellence in checkout marketing; Wegmans for excellence in cross-merchandising/promotion and excellence in category management/mainline merchandising; H-E-B for excellence in checkout marketing; and
Marsh Supermarkets for excellence in checkout marketing

Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) is the industry association for consumer magazines. Established in 1919, the MPA represents more than 240 domestic publishing companies with approximately 1,400 titles, more than 80 international companies and more than 100 associate members. Staffed by magazine industry specialists, the MPA is headquartered in New York, with an office of government affairs in Washington, DC.

The International Periodical Distributors Association (IPDA) was established in 1972 as an association of national distributors. Additionally, IPDA supports a subcommittee for book distributors and publishers known as the IPDA Book Committee.
