Report: B&G Foods Up for Sale

NEW YORK - New York buyout firm Bruckmann, Rosser, Sherrill & Co. LLC has reportedly put Parsippany, N.J.-based B&G Foods Inc. up for sale, TheDeal.com reports.

B&G owns the Ortega Mexican foods brand, Polaner jam brands, and Emeril's brand seasonings, dressings, sauces, and marinades.

B&G's 16 brands could bring in around $525 million, sources told TheDeal.com.

The brands are likely too small to interest large food companies, sources said. The most likely buyers for B&G are other private equity firms, they explained.

Bruckmann Rosser created B&G from its 1996 acquisition of Block & Guggenheimer, a 114-year-old pickle brand famous in the New York metro area, for an undisclosed sum.

Since then B&G has acquired a number of food shelf brands. In 2000, the company acquired the exclusive licensing rights to celebrity chef Emeril's entire line of products.
