Remke Markets Acquires Six bigg’s From Supervalu; Other bigg’s Will be Shuttered
Remke Markets has inked a deal to acquire six greater Cincinnati area bigg's supermarkets and pharmacies from Supervalu in a transaction that is expected to close later this spring. The deal will give the Erlanger, Ky.-based Remke a fleet of 13 locally owned and operated stores, all of which will be supplied by Supervalu’s distribution center in Xenia, Ohio.

As part of the transaction, Remke will purchase the following Ohio bigg’s locations:
Highland Ridge, 3240 Highland Ave., Cincinnati
Western Hills, 5071 Glencrossing Way, Cincinnati
Skytop, 5218 Beechmont Ave., Cincinnati
Hyde Park, 3872 Paxton Ave.,, Hyde Park
Mason Montgomery, 9600 South Mason-Montgomery Rd., Mason
Delhi, 5025 Delhi Road, Cincinnati
With a 113-year history in the grocery business, Remke said the soon-to-be-acquired bigg’s “will remain committed to the quality personal service and care customers have come to know and trust. We are completely committed to being a strong, locally run independent grocer in the Greater Cincinnati area," said Remke, noting that the acquisition will enable his company the ability to work with Supervalu via an existing supply relationship, which will in turn, “allow our entire organization to expand and give us the opportunity to provide even more quality products, personal service, value and convenient locations to all customers.”
Meanwhile, Supervalu said it will close its five remaining bigg’s stores before the end of May, which includes the following locations:
Eastgate, 4450 Eastgate Blvd., Cincinnati
Harrison, 10501 New Haven Rd., Harrison
Colerain, 8340 Colerain Ave., Cincinnati
West Chester, 4824 Union Center Blvd., West Chester
Florence, 4874 Houston Rd., Florence (Ky.)
Prescription files at the Florence bigg's store will be transferred to Remke Market's Turfway store later this spring, while the other four pharmacies' files will be transferred to another local company.
