Redner's Promotes Two Fresh Execs, Boosts Front End Services

READING, Pa. -Redner's Warehouse Markets here named Gary O'Brien as its new v.p. of perishable operations while Richard Stiles was promoted to director of produce operations, effective immediately.

In his new post, O'Brien will supervise all facets of the family-held chain's meat, produce, and bakery departments. In addition, O'Brien will also be responsible for implementing inventory controls, establishing and reaching all budgeted goals within the perishable departments. He will also be responsible for monitoring the quality control of all perishable goods distributed through Redner's distribution center. O'Brien has been an employee-owner of Redner's since 1979, beginning his career as an entry-level manager.

In his new capacity, Stiles will oversee all operations in the produce, floral, and salad bar departments at Redner's, and he will also manage the day-to-day operations within each store's produce department, including merchandising, scheduling, and meeting of established sales and budgets for each store.

He has been an employee-owner with Redner's since 1993, beginning his career as the co-director of the Wyomissing Warehouse Market.

In other news, Redner's Markets embarked on new partnerships with both Western Union and CoinStar.

"The monetary services that we previously offered our customers were limited," said company spokesman said Ryan Redner. "Now we can offer a range of services through Western Union and CoinStar that is above and beyond what is currently available in our stores. Our customers now have an avenue to conduct a couple different tasks at our stores while they are shopping for groceries or fueling their vehicle."

Western Union will offer a variety of financial services to Redner's customers at the chain's 51 locations.

The CoinStar alliance will allow Redner's customers to bring in their loose change for automatic counting; and purchase name brand gift cards for major retailers such as Cabela's, KB Toys and Hollywood Video, as well as pay-as-you-go wireless phone cards from T-Mobile, Virgin and Tracfone. Redner's said it will also soon launch DVD rental services through RedBox.

The employee-owned Redner's operates 40 Warehouse Markets and 12 Quick Shoppes throughout Eastern Pennsylvania, New York and Maryland.
