Raley’s Puts $40,000 Worth of Grants in the Hands of the Community

Regional independent Raley’s this week launched “Raley’s Reach,” a program that empowers the communities the grocer serves to determine the recipients of five $7,500 grants this spring.

The West Sacramento, Calif.-based chain invites nonprofit organizations, consumers and service groups to post their suggestions of who should receive the donations on www.raleys.com/reach, which will be open through April 19. Starting April 21, Raley’s online community will be able to log on and cast their votes for the projects they’d like to see put in action. The top five projects with the most votes will each receive $7,500 to make their goals realities.

“The extent of your reach is in your hands, whether you want to leave an impact on your county, your town or your street,” said Raley’s communitarian, Jennifer Teel-Wolter. “We’re counting on the community to rally around the causes most dear to them by spreading the word about Raley’s Reach for a chance to make a difference.”

Raley’s developed the program to provide the opportunity for grants to go where individuals recognize the greatest need — whether it’s filling the local library with new books, funding an arts enrichment program for disadvantaged students or planting a community garden.
