Pure Hothouse Foods Picks ‘Perfect’ Peppers

At the fourth annual greenhouse vegetable awards held during the recent Leamington Fair in Ontario, Pure Hothouse Foods Inc. received recognition for its peppers. For the second consecutive year, the company won both Best Specialty Pepper and Best Overall Pepper for its sweet long red pepper, and additionally captured Best Orange Pepper and Best Green Pepper in the Perfect Pepper category. At left, Matt Gervais, general manager of Sweet Orangeline Farms, where the winning long peppers are grown, holds one of the awards.

“We’ve got a great team of growers who work extremely hard to grow quality, great-tasting vegetables, and these awards really highlight their consistent dedication and skill,” said Jamie Moracci, president at Leamington-based Pure Hothouse Foods, a year-round grower, shipper and marketer whose offerings include microwaveable fresh-cut ready-to-eat serving kits. “With such impressive competition locally, we’re especially honored by these wins and proud of our relatively new and soon-to-be-branded sweet long pepper -- firm and crisp with few seeds, it’s incredibly sweet flavor makes it perfect for snacking and grilling.”

Hosted by Leamington-based charitable organization REACH International, the competition featuring panel of expert judges encompassing produce retailers, agricultural research centers, local chefs, and food writers.
