Puerh and Simple

Numi Organic Tea, currently exhibiting at the Fancy Food Show, has launched Organic Puerh (pronounced pu-err) Tea for the U.S. market. Made from a wild variety of the tea plant found in the Yunnan Mountains of southwestern China, the high-quality broad-leaf tea undergoes an unusual fermenting, ripening and aging process that results in Puerh’s unique earthy flavor and special health properties, including higher antioxidant levels than green tea. Unlike black tea, Puerh can be steeped long without becoming bitter, and has a rich, velvety, slightly sweet taste with hints of malt, according to Oakland, Calif.-based Numi. Available in Emperor’s Puerh (black), Chocolate Puerh (black), Magnolia Puerh (green) and Mint Puerh (green), the tea retails for $8.99 to $9.99 for a box of 16 full-leaf teabags.
