Publix Still Among Best Places to Work in IT

For the eighth straight year, Publix has been named one of IDG’s Computerworld top workplaces for information technology (IT) professionals. The honor is part of the weekly IT publication’s 19th annual Best Places to Work in IT survey, published in the June 18 issue of Computerworld and online.

“Our I/S associates’ contributions and commitment to premier service make our department and Publix a great place to work,” said Laurie Douglas, CIO and SVP at Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix. “Our associates believe so strongly in our company and mission.”

Coming in at No. 88 on this year’s list, Publix remains the only supermarket chain to be recognized. Additionally, the grocer ranks No. 49 for companies with 10,000 or more associates.

The Best Places to Work in IT list is an annual ranking of the top 100 work environments for technology professionals compiled by IDG’s Computerworld. The lists are put together based on a comprehensive questionnaire on company offerings in such categories as diversity, career development, training and retention. Further, the publication conducts extensive surveys of IT workers, and their responses weigh heavily in determining the rankings.

“The organizations on this year’s Best Places to Work in IT list consistently seek out and hire the most talented IT people, offer them competitive pay and provide great benefits,” explained Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Framingham, Mass.-based Computerworld. “Many of these organizations have spent years building top-notch IT workplaces, and … sustain dynamic environments where IT professionals can work with the latest technologies and play a key role in business-critical projects.”

Privately owned and operated by its 152,000 associates, Publix has 1,052 stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.
