Publix Might Get $3 Million Tax Break to Cite Store in Downtown Fort Myers
LAKELAND, Fla. -- Publix Super Markets here could receive $3 million in tax rebates if a retail development project planned for downtown Fort Myers, Fla. is approved, according to a report in the News-Press of Southwest Florida.
The tax break comprises part of an $18 million tax rebate over 14 years offered to a local developer, Cameratta Properties, which plans to bring a Publix grocery store to downtown Fort Myers in 2006. The Fort Myers Community Redevelopment Agency has approved the tax rebate, but the $270 million project must still be approved by the city council, according to Cameratta.
City redevelopment officials are eager to have a supermarket in Fort Myers' booming downtown area, the report said. The proposed site would also include office space, other retailers, and residential units.
