Publix Debuts 2nd Knoxville, Tenn., Store

Publix Super Markets will open its second store in Knoxville, Tenn. on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 7 a.m. The 49,000 square-foot store will be staffed by about 173 associates and offer a mix of conventional and natural and organic products.

“Publix opened its first store in Knoxville Aug. 22, 2012 in the Northshore Town Center plaza,” noted Brenda Reid, media and community relations manager for Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix. “The store has been well received, and we look forward to serving customers in the Turkey Creek area.”

Among the store’s highlights are full-service meat and seafood departments including antibiotic- and hormone-free fresh meats, wild- and farm-raised fish, and a sushi counter offering items made with brown rice; a produce department featuring exotic choices from around the world and extensive floral services; a bakery department offering an expanded selection of shicaccia and flatbreads; a deli department with a full-service deli counter highlighting Boar’s Head meats and cheeses, as well as soup and salad bars; Apron’s Simple Meals, which will offer customers two recipes each week and conduct live cooking demonstrations; an Event Planning Center to help customers prepare for any special occasion; and a full-service pharmacy with such amenities as a drive-through window, a body care specialist and a HealthNotes kiosk.

The first 1,000 customers at the Turkey Creek store on opening day will receive a free Publix reusable grand-opening grocery bag. Additionally, flowers will be handed out to customers at the store entrance while supplies last, and the first 25 customers who buy $50 or more in groceries will get a free bag of groceries worth $25. Entertainment for children will take place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., including a magician, balloon artist and caricature artist. Customers can register to win prizes throughout the store, among them a $100 Publix gift card, cakes, a deli platter, and fresh meat and seafood products.
