Produce Safety Summit Set for United's FreshTech 2007

WASHINGTON, D.C. - United Fresh here said it has added separate educational conference focusing on produce food safety to FreshTech 2007, set to take place April 25-28 in Palm Springs, Calif.

United Fresh said it decided to add a separate educational event on the topic to bring together produce business leaders, researchers, academia, food safety experts, foodservice and retail quality assurance staff, government officials, and suppliers of food safety services.

"This is a critical time for our entire industry to come together in looking at new food safety technologies and solutions," said Jim Gorny, United Fresh's s.v.p. of food safety and technology.

Gorny said the addition of university researchers and government agencies to the education program, and the trade show itself, "adds an important opportunity to gain input from these knowledgeable partners."

In addition, the FreshTech Expo will feature a new Food Safety and Research Pavilion, which show organizers said will be a focal point on the show floor for new technologies, goods, and services relating to produce safety.
