Produce for Better Health Foundation Reveals Retail Honorees

To further its mission of boosting fruit and vegetable consumption, Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH) has released its list of 20 Fruits & Veggies—More Matters Retail Role Models and Champions for 2014. The foundation will formally acknowledge the winners at a March 17 awards luncheon held at PBH's Annual Conference: The Consumer Connection, slated to take place in Scottsdale, Ariz., March 16-18.

"Whether using the logo on marketing materials, packaging, or linking to our websites, the 2014 Retail Role Models continue to be strong advocates of the Fruits & Veggies—More Matters brand and national health campaign, as well as the mission of PBH," noted Elizabeth Pivonka, president and CEO of the Hockessin, Del.-based nonprofit organization, adding that the honorees' "respective efforts to increase fruit and vegetable education, awareness and consumption [help] to strengthen our collective work toward a healthier America."

With the number following each winner indicating the number of years that the organization has received the award, the 2014 Retail Role Models are Ahold USA (5), Dyess Air Force Base (1), Homeland Stores (2), Meijer Inc. (4), Niemann Foods (1), Redner's Markets Inc. (3), Robins Air Force Base (1), Roundy's Supermarkets, Inc. (3), Skogen's Festival Foods (2), The Kroger Co. (3), Wakefern Food Corp. (1) and Weis Markets (3).

The 2014 Retail Champions are Big Y Foods Inc. (4), Hannaford Brothers (1), Hy-Vee Inc. (2), King Soopers/City Market (1), Lowes (1), Marsh Supermarkets (2), Schnuck Markets Inc. (2) and Supervalu (Jewel-Osco) (1).
