Pro & Sons Unveils Latest Hispanic Prototype in Arizona

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Publix is not the only grocer giving the Hispanic segment of its shoppers a store to call their own. Pro & Sons Ranch Market yesterday celebrated the grand opening of its latest Hispanic specialty prototype here, a 103,140-square-foot Phoenix Ranch Market.

The gigantic supermarket occupies the site of a former Kmart store that had lain fallow for two years. It is Pro & Sons' fourth store in Phoenix.

"We have taken the best homemade food ideas from Arizona, Mexico, and San Diego and combined them into a fresh food fantasy for shoppers in Phoenix," said owner Michael Provenzano Sr. Provenzano, who recently won the Retailer of the Year in Arizona for his work on the new retail concept.

The retail "fantasy" includes a 5,500-square-foot scratch bakery and homemade tortilla center featuring hot bread and tortillas throughout the day; a meat market offering custom-cut orders; Aguas Frescas and a fresh fruit bar; an ice creamery; and a seafood taco bar. A restaurant area is scheduled to open later in the year, according to the company. The store's décor includes antiques from early farms and ranches.

The Ontario, Calif.-based company operates four Ranch Markets in Phoenix, four in Bakersfield, Calif., one in Los Angeles; and a fifth Phoenix store is under construction.
