Price Chopper's Hepfinger Joins Weis Markets as President, COO

SUNBURY, Pa. - David J. Hepfinger, former s.v.p. of retailing and administration at Rotterdam, N.Y.-based Price Chopper, is joining another well respected family-held regional retailer, Weis Markets here, as its new president and c.o.o.

Hepfinger, who will assume his new duties March 3, will report to Weis Markets' patriarch Robert F. Weis, chairman; Jonathan Weis, vice chairman; and Norman S. Rich, who relinquishes the president title but will continue as c.e.o.

"Dave Hepfinger has a broad and varied background in food retailing which is particularly well-suited to our company," said Jonathan Weis, noting Hepfingers's "strong combination of operational and executive skills, which will be essential to our company's growth and success in the coming years. We are extremely pleased to welcome him to our company."

In his new capacity -- which includes the duties of c.o.o., a new position at Weis -- Hepfinger will oversee the retailer's day-to-day store operations, perishable and center store marketing, merchandising and procurement, pharmacy, distribution, human resources, and store support services.

Prior to joining the 155-store Weis Markets, Hepfinger oversaw Price Chopper's warehouse, distribution, procurement and store operations. During his 32 year career with Price Chopper, Hepfinger served in a variety of capacities of increasingly responsibility, including v.p./merchandising, v.p./retailing operations and regional v.p. He came up through the ranks as a district manager and store manager.

Weis Markets, Inc., which operates 155 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and West Virginia, also owns and operates SuperPetz, a pet supply superstore chain with 31 locations in ten states.
